I don’t like holding surprises. Let me cut the story absolutely short in here. I am sharing with you an uber cool idea of baking a very gooey brownie inside an orange — in the campfire! A quick dessert, that will be remembered long, while camping under the stars and beyond.

And the best part about this mixture is that it can travel well too. Freeze it overnight and carry in an airtight container. Scoop as required into an empty orange shell. The empty shell not only replaces a tray but also infuses the brownie with some citrusy aroma and that too absolutely organically.

You don’t have to skip dessert just because you’re camping. In fact, these brownies are designed to be baked and enjoyed while gathered around your campfire. The natural containers of fragrance release the much essential oils and infuse hints of the same in these pieces of confection. All you need to do is just scoop the orange wedges from within. Now this can be pulped into a drinking juice or a marinade for some other preparations too.

Further care can be taken by putting the top of the orange back on and by wrapping it up at least twice with some heavy duty foil. The outside of the orange might get a little black, which is not a problem, but you don’t want the entire thing completely scorched. When your fire has some nice toasty coals going, toss in the foiled oranges, making sure to rotate them around every once in a while to cook all sides. After about a half hour, depending how hot your fire is, your cakes will be ready to eat as you tell stories around the fire. Add more charm to it by sprinkling some chopped toasted walnuts and some proprietary caramel sauce, squeezed straight out of the bottle !


3/4 cup salted butter, melted

1 1/2 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup dark chocolate unsweetened cocoa powder

3 eggs

1 cup chopped dark chocolate (optional)


Place butter in a stainless steel bowl straight over live charcoal (if making mixture at-site).If pre-making at home, butter can be given two 30 second shots till melted. Add sugar, flour, cocoa and eggs. Stir with a spoon until well combined. Fold in chocolate chips.

Fill in empty orange cups, cover with caps and wrap with an aluminum foil. Bake on live flame for 30 minutes. Can be semi baked for a soft centered one too. If the mixture is made earlier, it can be frozen. The mixture will thaw while travelling and will be perfect to scoop.
